# Absolute Value

How to find the value of an absolute value number: formula, 3 examples, and their solutions.

## Formula

### Formula

The absolute value sign, ||, changes the sign of a number to plus.

So the absolute value doesn't change the sign of a non-negative number.

But the absolute value does change the sign of a negative number: from minus to plus.

## Example 1

### Example

### Solution

5 is plus.

So the absolute value doesn't change its sign.

So |5| = 5.

## Example 2

### Example

### Solution

0 is not minus.

So the absolute value doesn't change its sign.

(Actually, 0 doesn't have a sign.)

So |0| = 0.

## Example 3

### Example

### Solution

-2 is minus.

So the absolute value does change its sign:

from minus to plus.

So |-2| = 2.
