# Greatest Integer Function

How to find the value of the greatest integer function numbers: examples and their solutions.

## Example 1: [2.5]

[] is the greatest integer sign.

As its name implies,

[2.5] means

the greatest integer

that is less than or equal to 2.5.

2.5 is between 2 and 3.

So write 3, 2.5, and 2 vertically, like this.

The integer right below 2.5 is 2.

So [2.5] = 2.

## Example 2: [6]

6 is an integer.

The greatest integer function of an integer is itself.

So [6] = 6.

## Example 3: [-8]

-8 is an integer.

The greatest integer function of an integer is itself.

So [-8] = -8.

## Example 4: [-*π*]

-*π* = -3.14...

So -*π* is between -3 and -4.

So write -3, -*π*, and -4 vertically, like this.

The integer right below -*π* is -4.

So [-*π*] = -4.
