Example 1

Find the volume of the given right prism. Edges: 8, 7, 3.

Set the bottom face as the base.

The base is a rectangle.
Its sides are 7 and 5.

So B = 35.

Area of a rectangle

So the blue edge is the height.

So h = 8.

B = 35
h = 8

So V = 35⋅8.

35⋅8 = 280

So V = 280.

Example 2

Find the volume of the given right prism. Edges: 4, 7.

Set the front face as the base.

The base is an equilateral triangle.
Its sides are all 4.

So B = (√3/4)⋅42.

Area of an equilateral triangle

Cancel the denominator 4
and reduce 42 to 4.

Then B = 4√3.

It says
the given figure is a right prism.

So the blue edge is the height.

So h = 7.

B = 4√3
h = 7

So V = 4√3⋅7.

4⋅7 = 28

So V = 28√3.

Example 3

The net of an open box is given below. Find the volume of the box. Edges: 5, 3, 11.

Draw the open box like this
by using its net.

Set the bottom face as the base.

The base is a rectangle.
Its sides are 11 and 5.

So B = 55.

Then the blue edge is the height.

So h = 3.

B = 55
h = 3

So V = 55⋅3.

55⋅3 = 165

So V = 165.
