# Cone: Volume

How to find the volume of a cone: formula, 1 example, and its solution.

## Formula

V = [1/3]πr^{2}h

V: Volume of a cone

r: Radius of the base circle

h: Height

πr^{2} is the base area (= circle).

Circle: Area

The cone doesn't have to be a right cone.

## Exampler = 3, h = 4, V = ?

Solution

Solution (Detail)

The radius of the base is 3.

So r = 3.

The height h is 4.

Then the volume V

is equal to

1/3

times,

the area of the base, π⋅3^{2}

times

4.

Cancel the denominator 3

and reduce 3^{2} to, 3^{2}/3, 3.

π⋅3⋅4 = 12π

So the volume of the cone is 12π.
