Linear Pair
How to solve the angles that form a linear pair: formula, 1 example, and its solution.
Formula
A linear pair are two angles
that are adjacent
and that form a line together.
If ∠1 and ∠2 are a linear pair,
then m∠1 + m∠2 = 180.
Unlike supplementary angles,
the angles of a linear pair are adjacent to each other.
Example
Solution
Solution (Detail)
The given two angles
are adjacent
and form a line.
So the given two angles are a linear pair.
So [13x + 1] + [7x + 19] = 180.
13x + 7x = 20x
+1 + 19 = +20
Move +20 to the right side.
Then 20x = 160.
Divide both sides by 20.
Then x = 8.
So x = 8 is the answer.
